Another
of our favorite spots in the world is the booming metropolis
of Cabo San Lucas. Located at the very end of the
world (actually, the Baja California peninsula in Mexico),
this formerly sleepy village has gone through a growth spurt
to become THE new "destination" of travelers to
Mexico, much like Mazatlan or Ixtapa.
With so much growth, the local officials have been on a
clean-up campaign, including ridding the streets of stray
animals. During the last two years, many dogs and cats have
been euthanized and the pet overpopulation problem has been
controlled. The only ones looking out for the remaining
healthy animals and providing adoption services are the
kind people of the Humane Society of Cabo San Lucas.
They are in
need of EVERYTHING! Blankets (yes, it gets cool even
in Mexico), canned food, medicines, dry food, bleach, towels,
cages, food dishes, litter boxes and of course, MONEY (dollars
or pesos). Except for specialty items like cages
or vaccines, all these items are readily available in Cabo.
So it's actually better to send checks, money orders, etc.
directly to them so they may purchase needed supplies locally. Donations
may be sent directly to them (see information below).

We have visited
their location and can assure you that everything is on
the up-and-up. We actually wound up saving a puppy
lying in the road just after it had been hit by a car and
took it here only to have it die shortly thereafter from
injuries. |
